LOGIC FOLDERS

Versions Before Logic Pro 7

In earlier versions the folders containing EXS24 Sampler Instruments, custom arrange page icons and your Autoload song template all went in the main Logic Application folder. You could put the Sampler Instruments folder somewhere else as long as there was an alias called Sampler Instruments located in the Logic folder.

Logic Pro 7 EXS Instruments, Song Templates, Plugin Settings etc.

These are now in the Application Support folder but there are a few differences between Pro 7 and earlier versions. The factory default folders for Song Templates, Sampler Instruments, EXS samples, plug-in settings etc all go into:

All your custom stuff (ie EXS Instruments, plug-in settings that you save) go into equivalent folders in the Library Folder in your User folder:

EXS24 Samples

As with earlier versions, you can put these on any drive on your computer or connected to it. In the EXS24 Preferences you can specify to search on local, external or all volumes. (You get to the EXS preferences from the Option menu at the top R.H. side of the EXS24 instrument). It may help to run a scan in Project Manager, or buy a recommended app called EXS Manager if you are having any problems with the samples being located.

EXS24 Sampler Instruments

These must be in a folder called Sampler Instruments You can have more than one Sampler Instruments Folder:

• Factory EXS instruments - These get installed in Sampler Instruments in the root Library (see above)
• User created or 3rd party EXS instruments - These go into Sampler Instruments in your user Library (see above)
• Song Specific - These are instruments just for one song, saved into Sampler Instruments in the same folder along with your song files. (You need to create the folder)

All of these will be available in the EXS24 instrument menu when you need to load an instrument. Any of the folders can be elsewhere provided aliases are in the locations specified above.

Autoload and Other Song Templates

Similarly there are default factory templates installed in the root Library/Application Support/Logic/Song Templates, but you can save your own templates in Users/Yourname/Library/Application Support/Logic/Song Templates. You can name them what you like, but if you name one Autoload, this will be loaded automatically when you start Logic. The other templates are available from the FileMenu>New

Arrange Page Icons

• Go to: Users/Yourname/Library/Application Support/Logic
• Create a folder called Images
• In this folder create a folder called Icons
• Put your custom icons in here

NB: These must be .png files with named with a number below 325. Each custom icon replaces one of the default icons with that number.

It is possible to keep everything in the root Library, but you need to reset permissions, it makes sense to leave this alone for the factory defaults, and save your own stuff into the users/library/etc. This structure makes backing up of your custom user stuff easier.
