Using EXS instruments in Garageband?
Yes, it may be possible. See here. However I cannot guarantee that this will work.
SAMPLE AID
- Samples for Charity
About the samples
My first experience of sampling was when a jews harp boing
sound I played for an Ambrosia Rice Pudding commercial turned up as the opening rhythm on a hit single for S Express. The engineer for my commercial session was Pascal Gabriel who later told me he had sampled it from my multitrack and used it on the record. Since then I started sampling every useful sound on my own productions and built up a vast library of AKAI samples that I preferred over the commercially available samples. For the first time I am making these generally available and hope to raise some money for charity in the process.
The free demo downloads are fully functioning exs instruments with a smaller range than the full versions. Please support Sample Aid and read the EULA at the bottom of the page

SAMPLE AID SET 1:
1952 Epiphone Zephyr Regent Jazz Guitar This beautiful guitar belongs to Dave Marchant who let me sample it when he did a session for me. Every note sampled at 44.1 kHz 24 bit via a TLA C-1 valve preamp (no compression) and Metric Halo MIO converter. The "trem"instrument has the modwheel routed via volume instead of pitch so that tremelo can be applied in stages via modwheel. There is a Channel Strip Setting included which works very well (Guitar Amp Pro + Space Designer).
Also included is a Logic Channel Strip Setting that works well with this instrument. You can also download this image for an arrange icon |

Spanish Guitar with Finger VibratoThis was sampled on every note (in semitones) up to A#4. This is different to most Spanish guitar samples as there is finger vibrato on every note. This was recorded in stereo at 24 bit 44.1kHz. Includes velocity layer with "slap" as well as fret noise and box hit samples for ultra realism. |

Drums, Perc & BassAlthough some are looped or downsampled for disk space they still sound great and have more life than many commercial samples. I considered these my "secret weapons". All used extensively on Atmosphere/BMGs best selling production/library music CD, especially the Vintage Ambient Gretsch - a very popular kit - you won't believe it's not real. Includes Multi Hit Bongos (16 hits), Big Rainstick, Cymbal Performance kit (cymbals and rolls from top session drummers) and a Fender Bass that just sits beautifully in a mix. |
Full version (22MB) |
Brass & Woodwinds 1All of these are quite short looped samples and the flute and clarinet are resampled for efficiency of disk space. Not quite up to VSL quality, however these are extremely useful sounding instruments and they work really well for quirky character perormances rather than for an accurate classical sound. (Please Note: the demo mp3 Bass and Drums which are from Bundle 1 not included with this package). |
|
Bundle 2 - Keyboards & GuitarsMore secret weapons - Bechstein, Honky Tonk (Tack) Piano, Bluegrass Banjo, Elfolk Tremelo Acoustic, Very Nice Accordion. A collection of strange, unusual and useful stuff. The bechstein and tack Piano are from the old Elephant Recording studio in Wapping - famous for so many Pogues albums. |

HUMAN SAXOPHONE 24 bit SAMPLES
About Sampling a Saxophone
These samples do not sound like saxophone samples you get on MIDI modules or saxophone synths. Every note is sampled. This sometimes leads to certain inconsistencies between notes, as some respond differently to other notes - even when the pitch is quite close. There is a big difference in sound between the two registers, so the notes either side of thebreakwill usually be quite different in character. On the tenor these are B2 - C3. Saxophone players often use this to an advantage when playing, but you may find it a bit strange on a keyboard. Some notes
speakbetter than others, some have very different overtones. I used an AKG C12VR valve microphone set to cardioid/omni about 2 - 3 feet away from the horn, but still some notes that sounded the same volume in the room have quite different levels on the input meter. I have partially evened out some of the dynamics, but there are still a few
quirks- that’s the saxophone!
Every note is sampled
Ballad TenorSubtone long notes with soft attack and no or very little vibrato. This is useful for melody lines but also makes a very interesting warm pad sound. |
