Buying Emagic SoftwareAs you will have read elsewhere on this site, Emagic has been acquired by Apple, and is now only sold as a Macintosh platform application. Apple are currently streamlining the product range and some very good improvements and deals may be on the way, so check at Applestore or your local retailer before assuming this information is 100% accurate We can give advice on some good discounts, please feel free to contact me for advice before buying Logic and/or any hardware. Buying a ComputerGenerally Macintoshes are more expensive than PCs but are very often much more reliable and user friendly. I have been researching the best deals on Apple Mac computers and there are some good educational discounts available at http://store.apple.com/Catalog/uk/Images/routingpage.html (N.B. You need to click on the link to the right of the circular Union Jack icon) There are some very good deals on refurbished Macs (mostly laptops) at http://registration.euro.apple.com/promo/refurb/uk/(site available Wednesdays only!)
Tips:Firewire Drives:I recommend an external hard drive. This is better than an extra internal drive as you can use it for backing as well as recording. With a little bit of DIY you can get a very cost effective firewire drive by getting a standard fast IDE drive (e.g. Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM) which you can get from Ebuyer and mounting it in a firewire enclosure which you can get from: All you need to do is set the drive to masterusing the jumpers provided and pop it in the case and voila! cheap external firewire (or USB) drive. I use two of these for security backups. RAMIt is cheaper to buy extra RAM separately. A good make is Crucial which you can get from Ebuyer NB it must be DDR 400 SDRAM (PC3200) for Apple G5s |
