Nutty Crackers
The idea behind this was for what Duncan at BMG calls "plate spinning music". We decided that the Russian dance from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker fitted the bill nicely. I listened to the Dave Edmunds version of Zorba and I decided to something like that but a very "nutty" and manic ska version. So in the end this is nothing like Dave Edmunds except that it is fast there is some guitar on it.
Everything on the track is a real instrument apart from the bass which is my trusty EXS24 Fender sample and a Vienna Instruments viola hidden deep in the mix. This is one of those tracks that’s extremely difficult to mix - every instrument seems to want to be the loudest.
From the album Wild, Cool & Swinging (Atmos 226) - This is one of the wild tracks.
